SCCS October Difference Makers

Congratulations to our October Stark County Catholic Schools Difference Makers who were recognized by the Canton Repository!

Central Catholic High School: Manny Fernandez, Maintenance
Manny Fernandez has been working at Central Catholic since 1981 and has been part of implementing every facility upgrade, renovation, and remodel project Central has undergone in that time which has been numerous. It’s also his responsibility to maintain the beauty of the CCHS campus, both the facilities and grounds, anyone who visits Central will attest that it’s as beautiful as ever and that’s due in large part to his hard work.

St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School: Beth Frank, Campus Minister
Beth Frank wears many hats at St. Thomas Aquinas and wears each of them with a smile on her face. Pop in on any given day and you’ll see her working behind the scenes to support the staff and students at STA. Some days she is helping in our administrative office, organizing files, updating bulletin boards, assigning Chromebooks. Other days she has on her Campus Minister hat, leading us in prayer, planning Masses, finding ways to include all faiths in worship, and organizing service. Then the next day, she’ll be showering the staff with treats and making sure they have a good meal to keep their energy and spirits up. She also provides a breath of fresh air as a cheerleader of sorts for Aquinas and Catholic education in general.

Stark County Catholic Elementary Schools: Dan Mitchell, St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, Principal
Mr. Mitchell deserves to be recognized because he started at SJA one week before the school year began, and he has been "full steam ahead" ever since! Mr. Mitchell focuses on positivity and often repeats his motto, "Do better, be better" which he also expects from himself. He is making a conscious effort to build a rapport with each student, their families, and the SJA faculty and staff.  He sets high expectations within an encouraging environment. Mr. Mitchell has established a Student Behavior Code based on the seven virtues of the Catholic faith, so students are rewarded for making good and virtuous choices while learning that poor choices not only affect them but others in the school community as well.

Stark County Catholic Elementary Schools: Michael Moriarty, St. Peter Catholic School, Kitchen Manager
Mr. Moriarty works in the St. Peter School cafeteria by helping prepare and serves lunches to students. He is beyond kind and caring to all students, faculty, and staff.  Each morning, he greets all the kids as they come in early for breakfast, and the kids affectionately call him, "Coach Mo." He is a great asset to St. Peter School and is always willing to help where it is needed.

Congratulations to our other Stark County Catholic Schools Nominee for October!

Stark County Catholic Elementary Schools: Angela Wolfe, SS. Philip and James Catholic School, Aide
Mrs. Wolfe has worked at SPJ for thirty-one years as support staff, remedial math and reading tutor, recess monitor, bus duty supervisor, morning drop-off coordinator, and much more. Mrs. Wolfe energetically reports to A.M. car rider duty every morning, runs recess duty in all weather conditions, reverently rehearses Mass practice with grades K-8, manages bus duty, diligently and neatly conducts handwriting instruction for PK-2 grade students, substitutes for teachers when needed, and more. We could not get through the day without Mrs. Wolfe!
